Belgian Newspapers Want $77M from Google

First comes fame, then comes fortune, then come the lawsuits.

Google is learning this lesson the hard way, as suing Google has become almost as popular as searching with Google.

In this case, Belgian newspapers are suing Google for $77 million in damages, alleging that Google published and store the newspapers' content without permission.

This is one of many lawsuits filed newspapers against the very popular Google News and access to the news via Google Search.

The damages that the Belgian lawsuit is asking for are based newspaper content that appeared in Google's search engine indices dating back April 13, 2001.

Google say its search capabilities and its Google News service are legal.

If the litigants have their way, the case will be tried in a court in Brussels.
